BLANKET-SURFING - How to do it.

Plant eating is OUT, blanket-surfing is IN.

Here is an illustrated guide on how to do it:

What you need for this amazing new sport is: a smooth floor, a human or a bigger dog, and a blanket.

Step 1:

Get your human or dog to pick up one end of the blanket. The human servant tends to use their hands for the purpose, while the canine kind uses their mouth.

Step 2:

Get your servant to walk around the room with the end of the blanket off the floor, in their hands or mouth.

Step 3:

Chase the end of the blanket that's moving about on the floor. You are allowed to jump on it (and ride with the blanket), do head over heals in the process, or put your front paws on it and try to hold it down (with this technique your rear end is dragged across the floor). You are also allowed to scratch and bite the blanket, some wear and tear will occur, but this is normal.

Keep continuing to chase the blanket until you've worn out your servant

FAQ:

What to do if you don't have a servant?

If there is no dog or human available in your home, or the servants are inactive, you can use this technique: pretend there is a mouse underneath the blanket, or pretend that the blanket itself is your enemy. Again, scratching, biting, jumping, anything is allowed here. Not only is this a fun passing of time, it also helps to make your servants recognise that you need a hand.

What blanket to use?

Because of the wear and tear that occurs, you should take some precautions. If your humans have a special 'cat-blanket', especially for you, it's best not to use that, for obvious reasons. The best blankets for this purpose are the ones used for human kittens, they are about the right size, and usually in good condition. Some cats that are into blanket surfing claim that a new or near-to-new blanket works the best, but others say it makes little difference.
If there is no blanket available (make sure to check all the beds before you give up), a large towel can be used instead. These can usually be found in the human's bathroom cabinets.

Championships!

It is expected that there will soon be an international blanket-surfing championship, so if you want to enroll, make sure you start practising this nobel sport for at least twenty minutes each day. Your human won't last much longer than twenty minutes, because dragging the blanket across the floor makes them dizzy. Dogs last longer though, but they are a bit harder to train.

Cat-o-lympics!

There have also been rumours of blanket-surfing being the new sport on the next cat-o-lympics, to be held in Thailand in 2006. It's still some time away, but this only gives you plenty of time to start practising your surfing skills, and it will give your human or canine servant some time to get fit too.

We hope you will enjoy your blanket-surfing adventure, and do send us a picture of your experience with this wonderful way of keeping fit!
